@miyako19 - People seem to be obsessed with the idea of "subverting expectations" ever since it became a mainstream buzzword phrase. It's to the point where in itself it's become an expectation -- which is ironic. I agree with you; as long as it keeps me pumped for more, I'm fine with it.

Also, Tamayo is the real mvp. The poisons never really bothered me since she spent half the series trying to get his blood. I like the fact we have a character who's relied almost soley on her intelligence to fight back. It's just not something we get to see very often, and when we do it tends to be in somewhat convoluted ways a lot of the time.
