This is a kind of the new fad in Japanese webnovel community, a "success story after being expelled from the party; also, screw you former party members" trope. It's basically always started with the MC got expelled from their party, then after that MC actually got better life going on while the author periodically shown how MC's former party slowly getting screwed over and over due to the lack of MC's presence/skill/expertise.
