I'm guessing that the kick slipping through is just the ninja dude slowing his kick to let the block get past due to momentumand then slipping underneath. I guess Rihito didn't see it because it was from below and to his left, so peripheral vision, while he still had to focus on attacks from the front.

Rihito is still fighting in a very standard way. He hasn't shown off his stuff yet. So next chapter, falcon ninja dude is going to get a surprise.
