But you forgot to mention that they were not only crossdressing in each others clothes, but they were swapping the actual outfits they were wearing at that time! Hence the clothes they put on were still warm. In particular, the added comfort and lewdness of wearing each others warm undergarments must lead to a positive longtime development in mutual attraction.

Therefore I conclude that their relationship is not doomed and they shall marry soon, yet reverse the roles of groom and bride.
