Bull-fucking-shit. I know the whole point of this story is that they will end up together, but since she genuinely wants to annul the engagement right now, the notion that she wouldn’t use a tragic story about an *unwanted* marriage to convince the mother to help her is stupid as all hell.

“We can’t accept these rings, your majesty. To be honest, we don’t want to be married. I have someone I love back in my kingdom that my parents don’t know about, and I don’t want my story to end like the second queen’s. Will you please help me?”

Simple as that. I know stories like this inevitably have contrivances, but this is next level.

I really don’t like the princess now, and am starting to not like this project. She is just so... egoistic. She is just thinking about how she is going to be unhappy as a queen puppet, but I just don’t like how she is so two-faced, she really doesn’t want to be engaged? Then she should have told the freaking queen no matter what her feelings are. At this point I don’t like the prince either, he is a bit more bearable because he is a bit more respectful. I swear I feel no sympathy for the princess at all. And now I’m even feeling a bit guilty for hoping that Solace will drop this project and focus in the other ones.

@KrimzonHawka She has shown she has no problem lying and is good at it, so I don't see why she wouldn't. But that aside the concubine's dying wish was for two people who love each other to get the rings; she doesn't love the prince. Even if she didn't take it as an opportunity to annul the engagement, given the weight the promise clearly holds for the queen, the only decent thing to do would be to turn down the rings and admit she can't honor the wish since she doesn't love the prince.

But this story isn't about two people who are engaged working together to annul their engagement, or about two people who are reluctantly engaged falling for each other. It's a story where two people are brute-forced into romcom tropes while supposedly trying their very best to break up. It isn't meant to be read with any kind of critical eye, I'm just not good at turning that part of my brain off.
