I think the shaman was just after Leo herself and not just the prize money.

There probably aren't many chances to attack and possess Leo while not being noticed by anyone else. Leo was prowling around at the time, so it just happened to be the best time to do it.

Also, if the shaman was after the prize money alone, possessing Leo before she receives the prize would be the best. Leo could probably ask to deposit the money to her account or deliver it to her estate. Or if not, Leo might spend the money immediately like if she treats everyone in the tavern with some booze to celebrate her win (not that she will). Point is, there's no guarantee unless the shaman has a say on how Leo would receive the prize and be able to prevent it from being spent.

@Renan_Walheim, @da - I can confirm that. By the view it looks like the copter was in Ciudad del Este, or maybe Puerto Iguazu; this makes them slightly harder to recognize because most people view them from Foz do Iguazu instead.
