Most cartoon characters are so androgynously drawn that literally the only difference between males and females are hair length and clothing anyway.

If this be your problem, then you should rather start complaining about that in most material "boys" and "girls" really do have identical faces. As a most extreme example take a good look at Donald Duck and Daisy Duck and notice that they're clones, except in different clothes.
