Considering the atrocities that Yu-hon committed in this chapter, no wonder Il killed him. Yu-Hon was a monster and Su-Won deserves to be the villain if he killed Il for stopping his monster father.

@Dioss If so, it's not working, at least on me. Two wrongs don't make a right. Yu-hon's being a murderous sadist in the past doesn't excuse Soo-won's own treason and warmongering. The latter seems to be a case of "never far from the tree", though less bloody.

Why do I feel this arc will tell how Yona was reborn? Kashi’s identity plus the resentment of Il towards what happened with the priests... Hear me out: maybe they were indeed using the King and the royals as puppets through their fidelity and when Yu-Hon burned the temple to the ground, since there was nothing more to lose, allied with Il to overthrown him, and put the rightful king in the trone, Yona?
Though even if not planned, this probably became the plan later on and why Il sucked as a king but.. it would give an extra layer of angst for the story

@RayRayRaven the past few chapters have been based on Soo-Won's mother's recollections (what she wrote in the diary that Yona found). Basically while yona is the reincarnation of the King Hiryuu (the one who first got the dragons as his aides) Soo-Won is the descendent of said king from his mother's side. The chapters show how Soo-wOn's parent met, that his father was anti-priest/religion while Yon's father was pro priest/religion. Despite keeping it a secret, when the priests actually recognize Soo-Won's mother as a descendent of the King Hiryuu. YuHon- SooWon's father- kills all the priests to protect his wife's identity. What this chapter shows is SooWon's mother's naiveté. On one had SooWon's mother is scared and feels uncomfortable with the priests even with their admiration- on the other hand, despite being in a mutually loving relationship with YuHon, she has no idea how ruthless he is until he massacres the priests.
I think the author is trying to show us readers how past actions lead to the present situation.....I personally really like this arc because it adds another layer to the story. General YuHon is a wonderful husband, father AND a ruthless general (yay if you are a citizen of kouka and start praying for your life if you are from another country or a priest ) So he isn't 100% hero or villain. Same with Yona's dad- from what this chapter shows, he was a doting father and husband BUT he was also not a very efficient/wise King. You would love him if he was family but would hate him if you were a citizen of kouka... And the story has already shown us that despite committing the heinous deed of killing Yona's dad (he said it was in revenge for his fathers death) SooWon is actually a far better King for Kouka. So ultimately apart from Yona and Hak (And Yona's and SooWon's respective mothers)- the rest are all gray-shade characters. I for one love the character depictions!

I do not know why everyone is hating on Su won.
Since the beginning he has been cleaning up the mess Yona's father made of the kingdom. He was never a one dimensional villain. Or even a villain.

I find it weird that people are just explaining away the fact that su-won and and his father a willing to commit war crimes if it means winning. I find war crimes disgusting under all circumstance. I know it's just a story but, it's things that happened in real life. I think this story is just trying to prove that the country doesn't need to opposites for a leader (to harsh or to kind). You need someone that's smart, willing to compromise, but also willing to go to war when necessary. Essentially Yona.

I got goose bumps... this is a very solid background for Suu Won's "betrayal" and the truth of the kingdom. Yona's suffering and challenges is almost nothing comparing to the previous generation. I can feel Yon Hi's heart just being torn apart by her lineage, her husband indirectly killing her mother, her love for him, finding out that he's ruling with an iron fist, and her impending death from the curse. Now she has to conceal the fact that Kashi, a person to be executed, is alive and married to her brother in law.
I won't be surprised if she just snaps and loses it.
We'll see how Yona will deal with all this information.

Yeah even with all of this, I still don't feel bad for suu won. Yeah you fixed the kingdom, congrats. That doesn't make it okay that you killed Il. And your time is running out anyways so I can't wait to see him die and Yona and Hak take the throne.

Dunno why Yon-Hi is doubting everything so much. Last chapter she quickly noticed how corrupt the priests were, trying to have greater power than the royal family, and she felt how scary the High Priest was when he noticed her bloodline, but now after visiting her fam she is doubting if it was just her and that he was probably someone good LOL
Girl, that dude was controlling the king and one prince and was gonna take advantage of your bloodline to gain even more power. For the greater good of the country he is better of dead, just like King Il.

And you gotta love how people feel that Il killing Yu-Hon is justified, but then are super triggered about Soo-Won killing Il. Man, there really are "special" people out there xDDDD
Also, people should understand too that this isnt based on our modern world, but in a medieval one, so trying to push nowadays ethics and morals into that setting is really STUPID.

this vicious cycle of hate and revenge ends with yona choosing her people and i'm crying at the fact that she has to carry this burden of letting the bad deeds of these men go when her own anger is justifiable

also, this uncanny feeling that soo won and hak may actually be brothers is getting stronger, like, this is reaching too far i know, but what if yu hon, knowing that it's highly likely that soo won may die early, had hak as a reserve prince or something

My two cents:
I hate soo won's dad. Not as a father or husband, but as a person. To be so close minded and be willing to kill people just like that...
I think I see why they had to make Il the king. Il got burdened by the past and tried to give the best life to his wife. After her death his attention moved to their only daughter.
He may have neglected the kingdom, but he saw what was best for his family. Not a great king, but just a very nice person.

Personally, before I make any final decisions, what I really want to know is what the REAL intentions of the priests are. Not the surface ones, but the ones hidden behind the smile. It's already been stated that both the royalty and common people didn't approve of the priests interfering with the government politics as much as they had, and the last chapter clearly showed a small piece of their religious control on the king's family with Il. Not to mention, has anyone else even considered why exactly Yon-hi's people were living in hiding as they were? I mean, they are King Hiryuu's blood descendants which for all intents and purposes makes them the true royalty of Kouka, so what was the reason they ended up in that situation? Regardless of them having short lives, something rather drastic must have happened in the past for Il and Yu-hon to end up as Kouka's current royalty. This is a really big missing piece of the puzzle that I'm afraid we're not going to learn about but would certainly explain the priest's border-line creepy interest in King Hiryuu's descendants. Most of our history shows us that religious leaders will usually make use of things related to their own gods to further their agendas, so what did that priest really plan to do with Yon-hi's family? Depending on that answer, Yu-hon's actions might actually be justified.

Not to mention guys, I hate to say this and I certainly by-no-means do not approve of his actions, but if Yu-hon hadn't actually played the role of a violence loving villain than Kouka wouldn't be enjoying the peace it has right now instead of ongoing wars from the other neighboring countries. Remember how it's been mentioned that the other countries like Kai, Sei, and Xing were all extremely terrified to start anything with Kouka because Yu-hon was there and they had previous experiences on the carnage he could cause? While I certainly feel bad for people like Princess Kouren who suffered greatly because of him, I kind of pity Yu-hon in all honesty. Kouka is completely surrounded by those three powerful nations who would all equally love to conquer Kouka but in order to keep them at bay, someone like Yu-hon was needed to make sure they feared what would happen if they tried. The poor man probably has severe PTSD from everything he's had to do in order to ensure that his country wasn't ravaged by war. This just my own personal opinion.

@BlueCatMage it was mentioned that the original royal family got kicked out and killed when they presented themselves to the palace thats why they went in hiding

So yeah the current royal are technically fakes. Considering the head priest was given an actual blessing by the gods means his actions are legitimate like it or not maybe his true goal is to control the current royal family to one day oust them cause technically their not the true ruler of the land and bring back the actual royal family in which are the people with Hiryuu’s blood.

Also I doubt he has PTSD dude is basically a yandere killing anyone who talks to his wife.

Well in any case the original royal blood is back in power anyway so in the end the High priest goal was still a success if his plan is what I have mentioned.
