Looks like the knight has a big crush on the MC and extremely lacking in social skills. Seriously though, what is he doing using a sword to chop trees? Unless it's some kind of special sword with indestructibility, self-repair, or something it's not only going to get super dull but break. That's why most people use an axe made to chop trees that can be resharpened and take the feedback from hitting the tree.
