That "elegance cheat" thing just seems like the old man's memories / personality aren't the dominant force driving the body at all. Like whatever he tries to do, it is like an editor steps in and overwrites his decisions before they get actioned. That'd be really unpleasant to live through.

To be fair, as a lifelong civil servant he would be used to somewhat overbearing superiors and changing the way you act on display. In that sense, his adaptability makes him a great fit for this role.

Okay so it isn't like I don't have to filter myself for work too. I do. But not to anything like the extent the Japanese do. And to have to do it all the time, even when off the clock, is a horrifying thought.
