Maybe the race is called 'Ancient' because it predates conventional common sense? Kind of how alchemy was kinda a science, but there was only so far it could go without being able to infer molecular structure based on electron microscopes.
We have only relatively recently achieved photographs of molecules. Like, only-within-the-last-decade recent.

For all the people asking about "Ancient" Dragons, it's probably a D&D thing. Dragons tend to get stronger as they get older, so Ancient Dragons were one of the strongest. "Ancient" is more of a classification based on age than race though, so it might be a misunderstanding there?

The dual element actually kind of makes sense considering he's kind of two people, rather than just giving him the extra special thing because isekai lul
