While I know that the rules disallow posting silent manga/comics, we should still allow page creation for them so that people can link the raw page or official sites to purchase them.

Manga that do not contain text to translate. as a result the only possible versions to post are the raws, thus not allowed.

This suggestion is a very good one. Staff could be given the power to lock the entry, so that uploads were blocked.

Thing is, I don't even know if there are any empty series pages since there is no tag for silent manga, which goes to show how near impossible it is to see something that isn't there. In fact my my train of thought started in something else completely unrelated until I did my research on mangadex. Here's the order of event's my wierd brain created; commissioning an artist to draw a jk (joshi kōsei) eating a burger, which reminded me of the manga Joshi Kausei available on crunchyroll, known for being a silent series, which reminded me of a neat little oneshot that was posted to the old batoto about a star falling or a dream or something along those lines in a long strip format.

@kaza_hesto that clearly breaks the rules and is probably going to get removed the second a mod sees it.

Rule 2.1: Scans of official releases or webcomics from official sources, such as original releases (raws) or officially translated releases, are not allowed to be uploaded.

Since silent manga have little to no edits, it’s essentially just uploading the raws, and the kind people who host this site decided that that’s where they’ll draw the line in the ground so they won’t have to deal with such a legal hassle.

The way I’m suggesting to get around this is for mods to address it with a confirmation that allows people to make the series page, which could host all the links to raws and other sites of interest. Maybe even go the extra step by posting a chapter which forwards users to the original release in a similar way that is done with mangaplus releases, as suggested by @ BestBoy. While these suggestions don’t solve the issue with archiving, especially with abandoned series where the publisher or creator remove it from viewing or purchase, it still goes a long way with showcasing some amazing oneshots and stories that don’t get the attention they currently deserve.

Pretty sure just creating a series page is allowed, even if the scans aren't. Linking to raws is also already allowed in series pages as long as they are official sources, like pixiv.

Having chapters link directly to the raws where available is a cool idea though.

Making the series pages themselves were always fine. We have hundreds of series pages dedicated to series untranslated, only officially translated, or have no dialogue to them. MangaDex attempts to act as a source of information to official sources after all.

@Plykiya thanks for clearing up the misunderstandings. I would however like to press the suggestion that @ BestBoy had, where in a similar vein to mangaplus releases, clicking the chapter redirects you to the official source. Or does that require a new thread?

@Jumballi We fully intend to add additional official chapter links such as what we've already done for MangaPlus. But it opens up too much opportunity for sabotage atm. So sometime later in the future

Thanks for the additional response, I’ll keep it in my mind for when MD expands the official chapter links to bring up again at that time.

How much is too little? For example, Gon, titles and sometimes terms found are translated, but there's no dialog, on which side of the fence does it fall?

I think we have taken an absolute stance on this, i.e. if there are anything translated, then it counts as scanlation and therefore eligible. That way there's no grey area.
