In my opinion because Shino is an under-age girl, has no other family.. It's still normal if Nozomi than be her guardian. Maybe this chapter focus to Nozomi's realization about her relationship with Shino that is based on codependency.
I wonder what's that yuri bait for if this story won't go that way.

@pavel94 Shino's statement is not odd.
If Shino is a boy, society will think it is odd and inappropriate if a 17 years old boy and his older brother's young widow keep living together .

Hh Shino thinks that the only reason why Nozomi decided to stay with her is because Nozomi has a very kind personality so she is concerned to leave behind an under-age girl alone (Shino doesn't realize that Nozomi has another motive).

If the boy is still around 10 years old that will be fine but 17 years old boy ??

Furthermore, Nozomi is a teacher and Nozomi's marriage life with Taichi is just still one year.

So.. the most "right" scenario is taking care Shino (if she is a boy) without living together.

In example, by giving financial help and visiting Shino sometimes just like parents who can't live below one roof due to work.
17 years old is age where you can not say someone in that age is still a mere kid.

Taking care is a good thing but living together? That can be not a good thing if Shino is a boy.

After high school there`s college, and in case I didn`t misunderstand it, Nozomi and Taishi lived separately while Nozomi went to college. This is why I said at least till she graduates and not because it would be fine to just kick her out after turning 18.

But would that really be the best option for Shino? Going back to chapter 11, I don`t see how the reaction to the possibility of Nozomi leaving her would change just because she`d be a boy. She almost broke down in tears when she realized she could live alone. Boys have feeling too. Now that I think about it, it`s chapter 11`s fault why this bugs me so much.

I think they postponed their marriage until they graduated from the college but even if they directly gets married after they graduated from high school..
Boys indeed have feelings too but aren't boys usually more tough than girls?
Anyway even though Shino is lonely, do you think he will agree if Nozomi asks him to stay with her at her parents' house (to avoid that just two of us situation) ?
If Shino agrees that will be nice because he will get a more family like.. But seeing how Shino girl rejects Minato's mom .. No matter how lonely she is, I think she will refuse such offer.. Moreover if she is a boy
... If that offer was given at chapter 11.?


Back to reality,
Because Shino is a girl and this is a straight way story, after Shino becomes so close to Nozomi and I see Nozomi's father seems liking Shino,, I am not surprise if Nozomi's parents take Shino as their kind a informal foster child in the end.

Let`s put ourselves in Shino`s shoes: both your parents died when you were young, none of your relatives want to take you in and then you lose your older brother who took care of you. At this point your brother`s wife approaches you and offers you to continue living together. You`re not blood-related but you know her for years and you already got used to living with her. Does gender really matter in this situation? Would life be more complicated that way? Of course it would, but given their personalities I guess it could work.

I never thought of the possibility that Nozomi parents might adopt Shino. This could make for a great ending. Would in that case Shino have Nozomi`s last name and Nozomi Shino`s ??

If I am Shino and I know the society there thinks that is odd, I will refuse.
Knowing for years doesn't always make one will think " she is my one chan ".

Living together if she is a boy would work ? Mau be but remember , Nozomi decides to keep living together with Shino not only because Shino needs a family to take care of her.
Nozomi has that seeking traces of Taichi from Shino.

Well I wrote informal so I mean they may not adopt Shino legally thus Shino surename will not change but the four of them will life together as family. Even so if Shino is legally adopt and two of them changing surename indeed will be kind a funny but sweet. ?
