The last like 3 chapters had multiple instances of this chief amongst them his friends getting gibbed by the memory masticator

Don't get me wrong they're very effectively done and gloriously horrifying but I absolutely knew this chapter wasn't going to end without backsliding into nightmaretown with how saccharine it was getting
