How could humans conquer a whole country of dragons. We see in earlier chapters that they're weak as shit. And if dragons 500 years in the past were so weak as to lose to humans, why did they think they stood a chance at fighting against the gods. And of course most of this happens through exposition instead of the mangaka showing the actual events that lead to their destruction.

You havent seen the Apostles yet. They are Angels which gave even a full spec'd Hajimi a good run.
Later on Shirasaki gets the body of a said apostle, and she turns majorly OP, enough to stand besides Hajimi.

Just imagine every other manga working the same as this one. Violate a famous monster, get anthropomorphed party member, get a backstory for an otherwise pretty bland character and ruin the scene, because you can't escape the trope-yness of your own written characters.

It's less plot armor and more Hajime being pretty much godlike at this point of the story (and it's not even his final form). Shirasaki gets killed, and he preserves her body in an inventory box since nothing spoils in it. And then he uses Soul Magic from a dungeon and manage to affix her soul to the body of an Apostle he killed. At first he intended to fix her soul back to her own body, but she asks not to, since Apostle are fucking OP and she can helps him with it, something she wasn't able to do with her own body.
It's a major plot point tbh. And I won't spoil how she got killed in the first place either.
