The inevitable worst aspect of this pseudo-harem scenario is that it always involves a bunch of girls obsessing over one useless piece of shit male protagonist. And there is no reason why they would possibly want such a mediocre piece of human garbage (well, except the ones among them that are themselves mediocre human garbage... i.e. Chiaki), so the whole thing always comes off as horribly forced.
