Too bad for such a nice guy.
I guess it's the author's way to get us sentimental and emotionally invested.
He is/was a badass though. Similar to
Rindaman in build and power.

This way also his power is gonna stay legendary in the manga's universe because he will stay undefeated like Rindaman and so Kiriki will become the strongest without having to bring him down.
