Is it safe to say that it's all just Legosi's imagination? I mean, it's not like there's any information he didn't or shouldn't know in his dream. If it's really his mom's ghost or something, she would tell him her disdain against her komodo father even if it's implied, or at least that's what I would do. Like, "This is his fault, why does he have to be my father," or "I shouldn't have been born this way."

@Crombs for one, I am not furious at her since Legosi is not. Two, this is fictional. Fixed on outward appearance is indeed bad, but this is a different world and social structure than our ol earth with boring humans. As I understood it, mixed weren't that kindly looked upon in this society. I mean even Yafya think same species couple is better. Let's say that that means, to some extent, there is racism, but in form of species instead skin color/race. Gosha being a reptile is already being looked down on even to legosi's present day (remember the school guard?). So the why she did this is understandable. She's a coward, terrified of discrimination, after all her life using a mask, adopting that mask as what she define herself (being a wolf).
All in all, obviously, she is still one selfish bich. I won't be furious about that since Legosi and Gosha don't seem they mind, so why should I waste my time being furious on behalf of fictional characters? Legosi and Gosha seems to forgive her though so why must I had extra emotion for her?
I'd rather prefer to applaud Legosi and Gosha's action in this chapter. Big hearted boy and badass grandpa, that's the sht I'm here for.

Even if she didn't care at all about her own image, no doubt it would've been severely damaging to Legosi's development if the public had associated him with a parent who looks like a freakshow. He's already been isolated enough just by being a carnivore. Although she didn't need to go out of her way to make him after realizing her normal life was coming to an end.

I'd also like to add the fact that the mother suffered from this change in her appearance for years. At least eight, nine years of not being able to face the world properly because frankly, besides her family, it wouldn't have faced her kindly. People do judge (heavily) about appearance after all. If they had meet her on the streets, they wouldn't have looked at her, they would have pointed on her, possibly even made fun of her. And she knew that. I'm pretty sure it's been years since she even left the house.
So social isolation to her self hate play another important reason to her suicide. It doesn't make it ok - suicide is almost never okay - but it makes it a bit more understandable. Sure, her reasons for giving birth to him might have been to prove that she was wolf enough to give birth to a wolf-like son, but she could have ended the relationship as soon as she gave birth to him.
She didn't. She stayed long enough to make sure that Legosi won't face the same discrimination she would if she had stepped outside.
Is she a good person/mother? No. But she's not a downright evil one-note character either.

People here talk like if appearances don't matter IRL too.
I bet the people criticizing her actions here are the most judgmental of the bunch too in that regard.
You can say what she did was wrong but she had plenty of understandable and easy to sympathize reasons. And ultimately she tried to do her best so that Legosi wouldn't go through the shit she went through.

God, what a complicated person and relationship.
It's exactly like some (smarter) people are saying. Of course the things she did were bad and affected him, but she also did them for reasons all of us SHOULD be able to understand. There was an incredible amount of stress and pressure placed on her and she just...snapped under it.
