@Riger Dogs actually can't see very well up close. Our maltipoo freaked out all the time at our African-American neighbor because all he saw was a shadow approaching him. Put him in Ken's arms, though and is doggy smooch central. 
As for dogs hating women/men, this happens in a lot of abuse cases. Point of reference, my own Bichon, a rescue from a shitty breeder. She was forced to have puppies for 4 years, and women were the ones who treated her like shit. It's two years later and she's only just starting to trust me. Dogs are also, crazily enough, scared by beards and hats. It just weirds them out.

Cats were kind of domesticated but not in the way dogs were. Whereas dogs were selectively bred by humans (or in this case, genetically engineered after the war and made to be intelligent and obedient), cats just kind of hung around humans and existed with rather than being dependent on. Idk about orangutans, maybe there just aren't a lot around/they're not 'obedient' enough to excel like dogs?
