What we know is : something happened with Akiha's family. To handle the stress, a new personality is born, Haruka.
Now the problem has passed, so Haruka who has done her part decided she will return everything to Akiha.
Although, about the dominant personality, in volume 5
Akiha and Haruka tried calling their kindergarten teacher (who knows her before the split). Haruka made the call, and the teacher said she didn't change from how she was back then.
Also, "Akiha" is not her real name (not revealed yet). She picked a new name after Haruka is born. Legally she didn't change her name either. The school are already told about the special condition beforehand so they can help her when needed, such as when she suddenly switch during class.
It's probable that her original personality is like Haruka, but after the incident (I'm speculating her father is dead), her personality become like Akiha, then a split personality closer to her original is born.

In contrary, Akiha actually wants Haruka to show herself more.
There's a push and pull between them.
Yano's presence ruined it.
While they don't share memories, they have emotions left from before the switching, that's why Akiha can make a guess if Haruka tried kissing Yano.
She got jealous of Haruka who she thought is close and love him (and he also love Haruka). That ruined the balance, because somewhere in her, she wants Haruka gone.
In contrary, Akiha actually wants Haruka to show herself more.
