Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai - Vol. 11 Ch. 90 - The Shore-side Genius Sometimes Does [X] While Boasting

"It's a pretty common way to greet people overseas"

No it's not.
Try kissing one of your colleagues on the lips to greet her/him at work and see how it goes.

This seem to be a troupe and all but I have to ask: Where da fuck is it commom to great people wqith a kiss in the mouth?

the two part hypno gimmick was fun
but kinda baaad, seemed like an excuse to just exposition dump on us

Kissing is a common greeting overseas, it's just not on the lips. It's not even on the cheek. You kiss the air past their cheek. The only real skin contact is cheek to cheek. It's also only between close friends and family. ?

I think for anyone who is trying to correct the character, I think if she purposely or mistakenly used that custom to kiss him, it doesn't matter. It was an afterthought she used to excuse her actions in the heat of the moment. I think the biggest takeaway is that she shrugs it off after freaking out so much, even within the same chapter.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

My mom shouts haha

I think there's 2 cultural misunderstandings here.

1. As far as I know, kissing as a greeting is only common in France (or French-speaking regions), and only among family or very close friends. It's probably done elsewhere too, but is not very common anymore.
2. Kissing as a greeting is done cheek on cheek, not mouth to mouth.

But it's a common misconception in Japan, which is why it's often used as a joke or excuse in manga.

You try smooching someone as a greeting in ausy and youl get a right smack cross the head, mate.
