@justforthelulz: I don't think they'll backstab him outright, they've figured out that Karma is not someone to mess with. I think the divide we'll see is between the classmates who like Ryuu as a person and the ones who try to get close to him to get Karma to do favors for them.

From what i can gather, he does not outright hate his mothers support and love. You can sense it in his vague wording he gave to the student. He's just distraught that he's not allowed to do anything by himself, he wants his mother to trust him. This is also ultimately a journey for Sheila, Ryuuji and Karma. I believe at the end, they will end up pretty cool. This is very wholesome to me, i love this series.

I KNOW he wants something different. I'm saying he's a bitch for not making use of what he ALREADY HAS. His desires are unreasonable and unrealistic. People tend to become adventurers in fantasy stories because they have things they need, or have no other opportunities. Sometimes for other reasons, but generally a love of exploration and they have needs to be taken care of.

He has no needs to be taken care of. They're taken care of. He is the literal king of their planet, he just refuses to put the crown on. But he'd rather throw his life away than make use of what's in front of him in order to obtain his goals. Let's face it, if he wasn't the MC with plot armor, and didn't have Karma watching out for him, he'd be QUITE dead already.
