@Happily_Grim I don't think Frodo grew at all. All the other hobbits gained wisdom or confidence. Frodo was just so broken, he literally had to leave the world behind. But this isn't the place for that.
Chiquita obviously cares about him, but Karma
always comes first. Anything she does to help Ryuuji is
actually placating Karma, since she's too attached to him. Chiquita getting Ryuuji away from Karma for a while was
really just to try preparing Karma for him possibly
leaving her someday. (At least that's how I read it.)
Sheila is very good for him, but since she's
also a novice and kinda swept up in Karma's power-level, she tends to just go with the stupid shit Ryuuji does. Like in this chapter. She's good support, but not the counter-balance he
desperately needs. In fact, I can see Sheila's personal growth, like the spells she's learned, actually pushing Ryuuji even
further into recklessness. She's showing tangible results, while he just failed miserably, putting
her in danger in the process.
