@Talh Dude this is a clay pot. There isn't "Horn of goddamn abundance" written on it.
Ranged boss drops that and a stone looking like the ammo it shoots. Of course you'd assume it's a unique ranged weapon (that MC can't use being melee).
Could you tell an oil lamp from the Genie's lamp? Would you be careful how to carry it so as not to rub it?

the idea that someone making mistakes or missing about a million braincells makes them "not MC material" is strange, considering how prolific the idiot hero is, and how many successful stories contain protagonists who make multiple, sometimes very very serious mistakes for any number of reasons, including a total lack of thought as to the appropriate treatment of thing thing they know nothing about.

story-impacting flaws are a foundation of character development and sorry to say, the omnipotent, seemingly infallible protagonists of the isekai genre are a more recent development (well...at least in japanese media) and far from what many would call a seal of quality.

it actually boggles my mind that a new adventure making a mistake at his own, completely harmless expense is somehow crossing the line.

@CivilSky because these people want to project themselves as MC, so if MC gets a harem, they can get a harem. If they're bad ass killing bosses, they're also bad ass. Who cares about a good and realistic story with a character that has real disadvantageous flaws aside from being too perfect. /s
