oh ok, so the team failed not as an RPG party but as a story team (five man band) because mc was the one playing "the heart" role rather than the healer like normal. I mean, people guessed it and we kinda saw that they weren't all that...stable...in the past but I didn't really expect the problem being infighting.

also +1 to the evidence that the hero redirected his own curse onto mc.

I hope I'm wrong, but the sequence of events here feels like a set up for skipping entire novel chapters.

My understanding of this is:
With all the rumors circulating of "Douglas Ford - the strongest guardian adventurer", it's clear that Douglas has recovered his strength.
If Douglas recovered his strength, that means the curse was broken.
If the curse was broken, the ring was found.
If the ring was found, Douglas knows Alan was responsible.

Alan must have become paranoid that Douglas will come take revenge, so he has gone into hiding.

(Douglas probably couldn't care about revenge - He only cares about Ravi now; but Alan doesn't know that.)
