@Fajken the hero party kicked him out, and at first glance, it was the thing to do, because he was getting weaker and being weakened by his usage of magic. This weakening was caused by a curse that was implicated to have been done by the Hero, or someone else within the party. Suffice to say, the MC was fine with never meeting them again.

@Kikaibaka from what we have seen, Douglas was the strongest and wisest and maybe popular (with the commoners) of the group. But he was the only one questioning if the monsters/demons were only evil on the other side we have Alan that probably wants to eradicate all of them and he was probably used by people to take out Douglas from the way.

also he's probably sick because the curse rebound after Douglas saved himself and Ravi at the start of the series.
