Box Kei!

Thank you so much for translating this manga!!
It was on my wishlist for so long and I really love her works they are so good.😍

I'm gonna sound like some horrid middle aged lady screaming at the manager, but I'm really unhappy with this scanlation. I know I'm getting entertainment (that isn't necessary to my life) for free, and I try to be as forgiving to scanlators as I can, but I really ought to uphold some standards.

I'm not very into the story, but I'm a big fan of Yumi Tamura, and want to read all her works - even if some aren't all that up my alley. But the scanlation is making this intolerable. The translation is poor quality, and it sounds like nothing people would actually say in English: the language comes off as really plain and dull, and a lot of the time contractions aren't used ('I am' is used all the time, when unless 'am' is being empathised, 'I'm' is always more natural). It sounds like the language a 12 year old would write homework/essays in. If English isn't your first language, or if you struggle with creative writing/expressing yourself, that's completely fine and understandable - but you should get proofreaders to help out with that, to make your release the best it can be. I don't get what Dayment Scans' proofreaders were even doing, were they just focusing on spelling/grammar mistakes? Even then, I can still spot plenty. Bottom line is, the text here feels like a first draft.

It's also poorly typeset, even when there was a typesetter who wasn't also the translator. Using just one (poorly-matching) font for everything on most pages looks really cheap and nasty. The cleaning and redrawing is totally competent though, so at least, there's that - props to the cleaner. This scanlation really needed a lot more TLC and time put in. I see Dayment Scans putting out multiple chapters everyday, and I've read a few other scanlations they've done and the quality is also mediocre to poor there. Why is releasing that quickly necessary? It isn't 2008 and this isn't Naruto, speed scanlating to get something out as quickly as possible isn't needed - and most importantly, titles like Box Kei are so obscure and there's so little demand for them that there won't ever be a second go (scanlated or official), unlike Naruto where they were poorly scanlated with that being a given. If it's poor quality now, it's poor quality forever.

I really don't get Dayment Scans, if they're trying to make a name out there in the scanlation world - which such a rapid release rate would suggest, this - quick 'n' dirty scanlations of unknown titles - really isn't the way to do that. Posting this here, because this awkward scanlation is totally distracting me from the manga, even if I did love the story - it's hard to pay attention when you start noticing flaws; and because I don't want to be too obnoxiously confrontational.
