Damn. It definitely really, really hurts to lose a cat friend you've had forever. Particularly when you grew up with him/her. Sorry kid but there is nothing for it but time and knowing you gave them the best possible friendship you could. We just walk at different paces is all, I guess extrapolating that'd be how long lived races in fantasy series must feel about humans too. Old friends are irreplaceable, but there will be new ones wonderful in different ways eventually. Be it human or animal we're richer for having known them.

i don't think that most catulus can transform into cats, that's something that the weird scientist one did to yukki as an experiment (cough convenient plot device with a lazy introduction cough) way back

i mean this whole plot is being telegraphed, i just wish that the translation team, whom i don't wish to stress out, could knock out the next chapter, if it's available.

@fform At the very first chapter she transformed into a cat and that was before she met the scientist. Others turn she just does it easier since she is so neurotic and stress is one the triggers and being surprised I think. Also she is rare because she was a Catulus from birth well normally it is something caught like a disease or doesn't develop till later in life not sure which.

The scientist was experimenting with things to turn at will.

I had a cat like that. His name was Gizmo, a gremlins reference which was actually relevant at the time. He was born in '87, a year after I was born, and grew up with him slightly hating me for all the trauma I caused him when I was 2-3 years old, but warmed up to me in his older age. I was 20 years old when he finally died. It was like losing a brother.
