Cestvs Series II: Legend of Desperate Struggle - Vol. 5 Ch. 49 - The Unending Climb

Holy hell, is the Greek guy a Mary Sue, or what? He's so fucking PERFECT!

A technical god inside the ring, handsome, rich, respected, wise, an excellent husband and father... it could get annoying, but I can't help but love him :)
This can go either way, he could either be sacrificed to another competitor in order to show that anything can happen in a fight, or he could crush Cestus in the finals to inspire him and teach him that he still has a long way to go.

I'd prefer the latter. Him getting beaten would be unrealistic. Honestly, there's no shame in losing to an Olympian, and that title was even more prestigious back then. The city of the victor would demolish part of their defensive walls, to announce that, with such men as citizens, they don't need fortifications.

PS. Thanks for the excellent scanlation, as always :)

I also want Cestus to keep winning, but he hasn't even reached his physical peak. A child beating what is effectively the world champion is unrealistic even by manga standards.

I'm fine with him beating the others, the random hunters, soldiers, slave-boxers etc. even if they are portrayed as "strong". But the Olympic Champion? eh...

Solon's personality is pretty great. Also you guys are forgetting that Adonis or what's his name (Ruska's comrade) is also participating in the tournament and that guy is a monster, his one weakness is that he is super arrogant. Maybe I am buying too much into Solon's hype but I think he and Adonis are the two strongest competitors. So Cestvs is going to have trouble one way or another and might even lose.

Man, Solon is perfect. For some reason I don't find this as annoying as it can be, which is good. I do like that he has only used basics yet.

I can't see Cestus winning against Solon.

I think the trick is that Solon is not pretentious about how perfect he is, and his reason to keep boxing despite being already the champion is because he recognizes that he is not at the top yet, and has not allowed all his blessings get to his head, he is not arrogant and doesn't flaunts himself to others.

If anything his one flaw is that on his pursuit to prove himself he may shown his inner greed to attain personal power, but since he approach this from the point of view of effort and dedication you just can't hate him for it, unlike Adonis for example that openly brags about his talents and puts everyone around below himself.

every time i read a boxing manga i cant help but compare it to ashita no joe. so i think that maybe since this is guy looks so perfect he actually has a weakness like mendoza, where he isnt used to getting hit, so the moment cetus gets a hit on him he will turn the match around
