According to one spoiler I found re. Alexa; it's because she's the true heir to the throne. The current emperor is actually her uncle, originally the 3rd prince of the royal family.

Alexa's dad was the 3rd prince's older sibling and heir apparent.

Because the 3rd prince lusted for Alexa's mum, 3rd killed his brother to marry her.
Then Alexa's mum killed herself when Alexa was still very young.

Yeah, see, I KNEW that it couldn't be anything other than Alexa being the legitimate heir. There's no way that there would be this kind of effort for the older sister to try and ruin the younger sister's reputation so badly. I mean, really? Cursing her? Forcing her to consume high-calorie food that would fatten her up, and even embezzling and/or ruining the finances of her home? That's way too excessive.
