Every human has ability to learn. This should apply especially to this guy. It seems he is perfectionist, lazy and overconfident. Which means logically he would have saved long before coming here given that he learned from previous gambling incident. He is perfectionist (wants to win every time) he would saved at least start of coming to that room.
His inability to learn is simply forced.
