Cherry Boy, That Girl - Ch. 110

Since I don't have anywhere else to vent, might as well do it here. ? When I first started this I already found it weird a story with this plotline could go on for 100+ chapters and uh...I was right about that. The last 50 chapters are really dragged out and the drama is abit too much. The disconnect from season 1 was too much for me- it went from a humorous not very realistic shoujo setting to full on drama. And it's not just that, the character development doesn't add up. Berry wasn't popular for that long- it was literally only a month or so. How did her personality go from being kind and considerate to selfish? Would a moment of popularity really change a person that much? I feel like it could've been explained better. For example, when she was talking to Lime about how she treated her, somehow she believed friends carried your stuff all the time (cause that's what everyone did to her). She clearly knew she was bullied though, so that make no sense however you look at it. There really isn't any character development at all. After the popularity thing, she just reverted back to how she used to be.

The way the story was told was confusing as well. I honestly though she liked Pierre...with the way it was narrated, it would make the reader think that. Even when she confessed to Wally, I didn't think she did it cause she liked him- but because she didn't want to lose her only friend. In my head I thought that Wally was who she should end up with -I didn't realize she would though cause in most shoujos the girl never ends up with the perfect guy LOL. So at least it breaks from the mold. But I didn't 'ship' them at all. Basically there was no 'doki doki' feels in this story. The two had a perfect relationship too- the only problems came from the outside.

I feel like the character that suffered most from the story telling was Darin though. It might be weird to say this but I think he was alot more sane in the first season. It would've been nice to see his character being developed in the last arc instead of continuously showing how obsessed he was. You can feel the author trying to bring out abit of that, but it just fell really short- seems like the need for 'drama' just overrode everything else. When I finished reading the story I was just bothered by it- sure it was a happy ending, but I couldn't help but just feel bad for the kid. The story was told in a way that you'd just really hate Darin, but I felt most of the other characters were just as bad. It's not explained fully but Darin probably ended up that way largely because of Cherry. But the fact that they were in an abusive relationship was just ignored entirely. No matter how much Berry hated Darin, you'd think she might be alittle bothered if she found out what kind of person Cherry is. She was also obsessed with Darin-it was weird that she almost had nothing to do with him after the break up. If she really cared for him like a sister, you'd think she'd still try to help him. Even Cinna- what was the point of this character? He didn't do anything solid in the plotline. If anything he just showed how miserable Darin really was, his only friend didn't even care about him. The entire cast except Pierre pretty much ostracized him the entire story, it's kinda hard to blame the kid. The reason why I feel Darin could've been written as a much better character is largely because of season 1- sure he was crazy, but he did cover for Berry when she accidentally shoved him down the stairs. He knew she didn't do it on purpose. Also, he was the one that made her realize how selfish she was being when he yelled at her about hurting other people's feelings. At the end of the story, he's still alone. Sure, he just up'ed and left, but besides Pierre all the others just dropped him as well.

Overall, the pacing of the story just isn't that good- I don't see a continuity with the characters...they just seemed like different people from one season to the next. Except Wally. He was so perfect throughout. I did like him in the beginning but now that I look at it, his character wasn't that interesting. Pierre was just weird too...he literally knew nothing about the fake Cherry but you expect the reader to believe he liked her so much he'd suddenly change his ways? He also had a decent relationship with Berry but that was just dropped. I could go on forever but I think I made my point ??

TLDR; The story wasn't terrible. It tried to touch on sensitive topics, but the story telling fell short. Overall the main couple were likable.

@simplicity yeah feel like darin got treated terrible in this besides pear no ones cares about his wellbeing.

His sister supposedly acted in beginning like she cared but all she does is shit on him and doesnt care he disappeared. Tbh with an evil sister like that it's not surprising the severe character flaws he grew up with. A terrible depiction on how to deal with people with issues.

Pear the only one who cared about his wellbeing cared to take the time to help him work through his issues.

The series should of addressed more why darin is obsessed with berry is due to his childhood trauma and had it addressed in caring way by the other characters.

@Starbright This takes me back- I must've been soooo upset when I wrote that long rant hahaha. 😂

The series should of addressed more why darin is obsessed with berry is due to his childhood trauma and had it addressed in caring way by the other characters.
Yeah definitely. It would've been more interesting and meaningful. Probably more memorable too. Tbh I forgot most of the what happened in the story now. The series had potential.

@simplicity @Starbright you guys wrote exactly what i wanted to write. i thought in the beginning it was mainly romcom, darin and berry were just being stupid and will return together soon, then berry began dating walnut without even breaking up with darin, then i thought wtf, and then series turned from romcom to melodrama and dragged on while using every point in the story to destroy their relationship and turning everyone against darin, then i thought again wtf. even until the ending i didn't think that darin was just obsessed with berry, i thought he truly loved her, i just thought it was unfair to darin, and i didn't really like walnut x berry, i think that berry acted like a bitch and i cant justify her actions and she didn't even try to fix the misunderstandings between them, i now just convince myself that there is a problem in the storytelling. T_T i wrote this even when i read it like a year ago but i just stumbled on it again.

edit: also did you know that the pornhwa "sadistic beauty" is by the same author and artist, it is ongoing, it has graphic scenes and bdsm, the main 2 male characters are very similar to darin and wally but this time wally is kinda the main, the fmc is hot af but she is also a bitch and a dom.

@madawy Yeah let's all agree that it was pretty bad storytelling. 😅 Even though it's been awhile since I read this, it's still good to know I wasn't the only one that felt that way about the story.

And at least we know now to not read anything else from this author lol.

@simplicity yeah, i was happy when i found a discussion about it and also confirming my feelings about the story,😃

also it's too late for me T_T i read the other series without knowing about the author, and got attached to the mc and shipped him with fmc(the protagonist), then drama happened, after that some f*cked up sh*t happened and i have depresso and because it had so much potential and the author ruined it, as you already stated i really recommend to not read that pornhwa (it has bdsm, rape of a male character, bitch fmc that wants to fuck everyone, and a heartbroken sweet mc that became the fmc's plaything, and still soon to end also can't predict how it ends but i believe its probably gonna be bad(maybe even a mmf ending for the sake of fan service or horny fmc character)), so basically, don't even.

@madawy That sounds horrible... ugh, yeah definitely never gonna read anything from this author again. Thanks for the warning. The weirdest part about this is, there seems to be a market for this kind of (ntr?) story... I think most of the audience go in with the expectation that those kinds of thing will happen. IDK though, but I just never understood the appeal of that.

@simplicity it is a pornhwa after all, and most pornhwas are ntr, but this one kinda isn't,
i also think the author is trying to make the fmc appear as the victim who had a bad past(that's why she looks for just sex not real relationships), the main mc loved her but she was afraid of being in a relationship(so he stayed with her as a sex friend) , and the other mc was her 1st bf in college who was very rude to her and he is the cause of her being a "victim"(he is the guy who got raped by her)(we still don't know if she just hates him or she kinda loves him), and she still sleeps with both as just "sex friends" but the mcs don't know that,
the best thing about drama is the resolution, but here it's just too much drama that i don't even think it is possible to have a satisfying resolution, but the problem is i got attached before the convoluted drama happened and i'm waiting for a resolution, hoping that it has a good ending, if it has a satisfying ending i would actually recommend it (apart from the fmc being a bitch and the drama and the s/m rape), but the conclusion is still not near and more drama is going to happen:(
*just venting depressingly T_T

@madawy At this point, I would just say...maybe give up on it 😅 I get that it's hard since you got invested, but at the same time, based on the conclusion for this story, having a good resolution will be slim. I guess because I've read so many stories that turn out disappointing that I've started to just drop the ones that I don't think is worth the time.

@simplicity that's what i should do, but..😂
my problem is that i get attached to characters easily depending on the story and that i have a teeny little bit of hope that the story will have a satisfying ending, but i don't believe it will happen. all i have is hope. and i return to read every time it updates to know what happened after making a decision to drop it T_T i'm not hyped for the story and i don't enjoy it, i just worry about what will happen, i wasted too much time worrying about the story. so i decided recently (while its on a break) to drop it till its completed and find out the how is the ending.

@madawy Yeah we all have the hope that things will end well even though we don't think it will 😂 Dropping it and finding out the ending later is a good plan.

Awww...end already? Sighed. It would have been great if theres an extra or epilogue chapter after this but sadly no.

And why Pear got married at such a young age? Cant they just engage first before marriage? Honestly his outcome really depress me! He is such a good guy but why did have to get this kind of ending wuwuwuu! Dont say the bride is good but y'know it cant change the fact that they didnt married for love! Arghh!

ohmy, i remember my blood boiling when i read this because of how pissed i was at Darin lmao. he's so obsessive and annoying, it's scary, i can still feel how drained Berry was.
props to her for simply dealing with him lol. At some point Pear was extra annoying too.

BUT Wally Kang is Best Boy and i ship him with Berry so much. and i especially love when their friendship has just begun in the midst of weird circumstances. The first thing he said to her was "fuck off" iirc, i'd like to think that their meeting was fate. i was so happy they ended up together that i forgave everything Darin has done lmao.

this manhwa has a special place in my heart simply for the emotional rollercoaster and making my blood boil so much but somehow still managing to deliver Berry and Wally's cutest moments.
