Since I don't have anywhere else to vent, might as well do it here. ? When I first started this I already found it weird a story with this plotline could go on for 100+ chapters and uh...I was right about that. The last 50 chapters are really dragged out and the drama is abit too much. The disconnect from season 1 was too much for me- it went from a humorous not very realistic shoujo setting to full on drama. And it's not just that, the character development doesn't add up. Berry wasn't popular for that long- it was literally only a month or so. How did her personality go from being kind and considerate to selfish? Would a moment of popularity really change a person that much? I feel like it could've been explained better. For example, when she was talking to Lime about how she treated her, somehow she believed friends carried your stuff all the time (cause that's what everyone did to her). She clearly knew she was bullied though, so that make no sense however you look at it. There really isn't any character development at all. After the popularity thing, she just reverted back to how she used to be.
The way the story was told was confusing as well. I honestly though she liked Pierre...with the way it was narrated, it would make the reader think that. Even when she confessed to Wally, I didn't think she did it cause she liked him- but because she didn't want to lose her only friend. In my head I thought that Wally was who she should end up with -I didn't realize she would though cause in most shoujos the girl never ends up with the perfect guy LOL. So at least it breaks from the mold. But I didn't 'ship' them at all. Basically there was no 'doki doki' feels in this story. The two had a perfect relationship too- the only problems came from the outside.
I feel like the character that suffered most from the story telling was Darin though. It might be weird to say this but I think he was alot more sane in the first season. It would've been nice to see his character being developed in the last arc instead of continuously showing how obsessed he was. You can feel the author trying to bring out abit of that, but it just fell really short- seems like the need for 'drama' just overrode everything else. When I finished reading the story I was just bothered by it- sure it was a happy ending, but I couldn't help but just feel bad for the kid. The story was told in a way that you'd just really hate Darin, but I felt most of the other characters were just as bad. It's not explained fully but Darin probably ended up that way largely because of Cherry. But the fact that they were in an abusive relationship was just ignored entirely. No matter how much Berry hated Darin, you'd think she might be alittle bothered if she found out what kind of person Cherry is. She was also obsessed with Darin-it was weird that she almost had nothing to do with him after the break up. If she really cared for him like a sister, you'd think she'd still try to help him. Even Cinna- what was the point of this character? He didn't do anything solid in the plotline. If anything he just showed how miserable Darin really was, his only friend didn't even care about him. The entire cast except Pierre pretty much ostracized him the entire story, it's kinda hard to blame the kid. The reason why I feel Darin could've been written as a much better character is largely because of season 1- sure he was crazy, but he did cover for Berry when she accidentally shoved him down the stairs. He knew she didn't do it on purpose. Also, he was the one that made her realize how selfish she was being when he yelled at her about hurting other people's feelings. At the end of the story, he's still alone. Sure, he just up'ed and left, but besides Pierre all the others just dropped him as well.
Overall, the pacing of the story just isn't that good- I don't see a continuity with the characters...they just seemed like different people from one season to the next. Except Wally. He was so perfect throughout. I did like him in the beginning but now that I look at it, his character wasn't that interesting. Pierre was just weird too...he literally knew nothing about the fake Cherry but you expect the reader to believe he liked her so much he'd suddenly change his ways? He also had a decent relationship with Berry but that was just dropped. I could go on forever but I think I made my point ??
TLDR; The story wasn't terrible. It tried to touch on sensitive topics, but the story telling fell short. Overall the main couple were likable.
