Does anyone know why single males aren't permitted? What sordid tale or cultural idiosyncrasy is responsible?

EDIT: OK, found it after several weird tourist articles. It's not just single males but any all-male group is excluded. Apparently since most customers are female and the booths are private and curtained off there were cases where groups of guys would follow girls, force their way in, and molest them. I guess I should have expected something like that.
