it's quite a cold morning this saturday, and my little princess just can't stop rolling around on my bed.
doesn't want to go outside (cold) - but wants warmth and entertainment nonetheless, so she keeps alternating between resting on top of me, walking over my laptop and toe-licking or curtain-scratching her time away

It's not that winters are so cold in Japan (at least not in Tokyo). It's that they have a different philosophy with regards to how to deal with them. In the USA and Europe we heat the house. In Japan they only heat the occupants.
By the standards of where I live (roughly the same latitude as Hokkaido), Tokyo winters are downright mild.

And here I complain about the city I live in being cold at times to the point where I need a hot shower and my electric sheep (blanket) to sleep comfortably. Living in the same latitude as Hokkaido means that it's FREAKING cold.
