probably because it looks more like a Tornado than a Storm... since it is that swirly, if so, then it's not exactly wrong to use it there....
personally, if I saw a cloud looking like that... that's not exactly what I would call a storm either.
the kanji used in the raw is 竜巻, which for all i know would mean Tornado... so it's not really mistranslated either...
probably just because it is looks like one...
