@Solipsist They got a report of a mysterious creature at the house and were following up on the report. Once they found out Hime was once at the house they thought that the person that reported the creature was referring to Hime and because they know Hime is not normal they just figured it must have been her and moved on.

I'm aware. If that's all that plot-thread was about, it was incredibly weak and random. It makes much more sense that they misunderstood the target, and there's actually a much bigger fish lying around the house (i.e: not creepy cat).
Or, heck, maybe they mistook the MC's house, for that red demon-girl's house. Cutting that direction short, to focus on more random stuff is pretty meh, imo.

In some other forms I've seen, basically the granny would appear in someone's rear window when they're driving at high speed in some darken location (tunnel, seaside road without much light, etc)
Then when they turn to look, she'll be there, and they'll be paralyzed and unable to turn their neck back, leading them to crash into whatever is up ahead.
