Dagashi Kashi - Vol. 9 Ch. 145

Is that even different from normal chalk mmm...~?

@VawX It's basically what Dark Souls games call "soapstone". The word used in Japanese ("rouseki") is the same used here. It's called "pagodite" in English because Chinese artisans would sculpt objects like pagodas out of it.

(Incidentally, it's not hopscotch, but rather a similar game called "kenpa" or "kenkenpa".)

@Shita-kiri_Suzume ah I see, I never really know there are other type of "chalk" that teacher use in Japan, I thought it's all the same mmm...

@VawX They're not quite the same because chalk is sedimentary rock and pagodite is metamorphic. The only thing they have in common is being soft rocks that can be used for writing. Suffice to say, there's various rocks with that quality and chalk is the name for just one of them.

it is literally rock that very low in mohs scale that simply by rub it with ant harder medium will left trace. that shit must be old as fuck. since they are basically dying after chalk and gypsum is way more cheaper and easier to use available in market. it was dying in late 70's here. why japan still using it trough late 90's?

This has been one of the funniest chapters in a long time, and it really brought me a lot of memories of 25 years ago.

Is the chapter title not written so that the revelation has more impact? That's clever
