Maybe he is already dead and a regent is ruling temporarily or just bedridden/sick and can't move a muscle or smth.

@WanderingKaos there's also the matter that killing your own father, if not creating a trouble of a crime, also creates rumour even if he diasappear as she is 'the one who chased away/disappeared her father'.
Keeping in mind that their reality may be patriarchic, meaning women have less to talk, she may be just outright bullied by society wherever she goes even after divorce (if she avoids jail or other punishment).
Example: the recent case of sisters killing their tyrant "father" in russia and media trying to demonize them.

I think this is the wrong chapter for this comment but didn't she say to send her father far away from them. It's just me because i'm a terrible person who cannot have someone do me wrong without extreme payback but what i meant was "Broke, indebt father gets into terrible 'street thug battle' and dies because he went somewhere shady for another loan" or "Terrible broke indebt father use his own daughter's engagement gift to sell to 'disappear' into the neighboring country then gets into terrible carriage accident". That kind of story where no one would investigate clearly because he's just a lowly baron anyway and he deserved it rumors. The Marquess would totally be down for some "accidental death" considering he killed his own family before.

Y'all are right though. I don't know about the societly or her feelings about the Marquess.

The Marquis knows how to work a woman. First he tells her, "I only escort my guests to the carriage when the negotiation is satisfactory and that's rare." Then he protects her from society by telling her he'll handle her father, no need for her help.

Then is the gift sending, I guess, but as seen from Daisy's face, that only gave her pause. It was the complimenting her on her negotiation that really made her go doki doki!
