I like how the Dark Mortal thing didn't just beat the crap out of everyone on a whim, it made a ton of preparations to make sure it wouldn't backfire to the MC. It might have been done out of selfish interests, but that level of self control and plotting for a monster that loves physical violence is refreshing and impressive.

Also I love how even the smaller named characters aren't disposable plot devices, they feel like they've got circumstances of their own.
