I honestly wished that he would've picked the hammer up with one hand and swung it around like it was nothing. Also how is he having trouble counterbalanced the hammer, counterbalanced should honestly be instinctual to anyone that can walk, atleast I have never had that problem no matter how much weight I carry.

@ezdez of course, the full lore makes things easier, nothing a 30 second breeze of the surprisingly good wiki can accomplish. In terms of world building an how it approaches things, definitely not generic. You'd also have to be pretty narrow-minded to just go decrying good isekai as being generic, particularly if that affects whether you enjoy it or not.

@SerpensR i'm just saying that if you have to read supplementary material to understand the lore, it's poorly written and someone's lack of enjoyment due to not having known this lore (or that it even existed) is the fault of the writer and not the reader. I base my judgement on a story's uniqueness on the story alone, not through an obscure "surprisingly good" wiki. this isn't Destiny, I don't want to have to DLC to enjoy the main story and look up a wiki to know some obscure reference.

that doesn't make sense at all - "good isekai" is a qualitative judgement and therefore personal taste; how does narrow-mindedness play into it and how the affect on the generic nature of the story make me narrow-minded? for you to not understand how THIS isekai is generic, it would suggest that you don't read enough isekais to grasp that Death March plays so many common tropes. I also did not say that I did not enjoy the manga; just because something is generic does not make in less enjoyable. I'm just saying it's been done before and if there's nuance omitted from the Light Novel or other source that's too bad for the story in the manga.

I'm agreeing with ezdez on this one. If a reader has to go to a wiki in order to understand any part of the story, then the writer has failed to write correctly. The manga adaptation of Death March is quite bland at times. Even the anime was bland at parts. It's meant to be a far more laid back isekai than most, but this isn't Western Restaurant Nekoya's anime, nor does it compare to Izakaya Nobu in writing quality for the manga.

I personally like it, but there is such a thing as whether or not an isekai is objectively good. And this isekai is objectively meh. The highlight of this series is the main character going around, exploring. Series such as Girls' Last Tour and Kino's Journey do that far better than Death March, giving an interesting and engaging story to go along with the actual events happening. Kino's Journey does the engaging story extremely well, having characters introduced and backstories properly told. Girls' Last Tour has the flavoring of mystery and intends to bring the reader into their world to explore and wonder with the main characters about what's going on.

Death March's flavoring is a mild touch of food review and a fantasy world. It's the vague MSG and excessive cheese taste of a mediocre writer. It's not terrible, but it's not that great, either.
