instead of bathing every break in the labyrinth, why doesn't he use his lifestyle magic?

@Saxfire a little spoilery but since the manga isn't as clear:

satou doesn't actually get access to spell casting until later due to difficulties chanting the magic language. he has the lifestyle magic from contact but no spells. The only spells he can use are the meteor and map search ones, plus any that he picks up from a magic scroll since scroll-casting doesn't require chanting.
