@Degernase - you never know. Maybe he is facing some dire circumstances, and he has a quest to give to you in exchange for leaving Mia alone. A merchant and a rogue like Satou must at least try it.
Even a battle anime hero would not go into battle without trying to talk it out first.

There's a time and place for "talking things out", yielding even further initiative to the enemy by not acting may result in everyone getting killed. It would be different in a situation were he not openly hostile, but immediately setting the building on fire and paralyzing the people inside with fear magic should count as attempted murder.
The fire puts even more pressure on him to act rather than talk, they're all fucked if staying put regardless of the enemy's actions.

@Raudhbjorn - violence always works, but doesn't always produce the best results. Sometimes, cooperation is just better - not only is threat resolved, you get a new waifu in the process.
