Good basis and potential but the author probably didn't establish himself enough at the time and sothe editors aced for how little the serie had to sell.
Given the year of release it had fierce competition but no female heroine, a world not described enough (we know the wild west but what about '90s Japan?), the past of the MC was foggy (okmistery but give us more in the first chapter).
The squirrel mascotte didn't appear enough, the butler was probably planned as frequent helper but appeared too late, the girl in the end was introduced too late in the story.
Even the crisis the MC faced were too big for a person, and he was way too prepared.
