I agree that the character development is slow, but then MC is really a "beta male". Not saying he has a psychological issue to overcome, but being "beta male" for so long that he grew comfortable to be one, he has little motivation to change. He's content thus far to just pain in his club, he doesn't seek friends. It's with interaction with his kohai that he finds value in others. In other words we need more kohai/senpai interactions, so he can grow.
