@aldes It's a problem of living a peaceful life in a very safe place. In an early chapter they were joking about the police officer having nothing to do. When you have lived all your life like that, you simply can't suspect anything, unless you are a nasty personality like the fisherman chief (who is, however, so stupid any scammer could manipulate him). It's also why industrial spies enjoyed much success still a few decades ago and why different kinds of scams, like fake cop scams, remain common.
