@Lithe I wouldn't describe Takehiro as "shoehorned" in. Him, his dad, Mr. Shige, Ms. Uchi, Mr. Wada, and Kunio are the main recurring islanders in the story.

@First_Mate_Zoro I would. Unless you think an inspirational speech can wake a doctor up so he can continue performing surgery on himself somehow isn't cheesy, I think he was basically forced back in, even if it's natural for a story like this.
