Kamikaze planes weren't really effective nor used against ground targets, though they might've become if the ground fighting made it to mainland japan where there's a lot more useful infrastructure

The series does take quite a few liberties with the historical elements it uses.

But I think the kamikaze references this chapter are pretty clear, since "baka" is also a piloted missile used by the kamikaze, so the chapter title has a double meaning.

In both cases baka refers to an idiot, but it's also saying that Naoshi's a kamikaze crash survivor.
