I dont know about the novel but looking at the manga it seems like she just release the katana and let it fall from her hands. I dont think an 18 kg sword is practical at all

4-8lb, and razor sharp, from what me a 5-8 foot fall, with the initial penetrative point being the size of a needles tip, and this is with no fantacy material or imparting of any force assumed.

irl, an actually sharp knife if dropped a few inches will cut to bone, probably into a bone before it stops.
