Are you talking about the dialog on the first page cause I think it's supposed to the program that's on the TV (the old man and the female elf)? It got me confused at first too until I realized that dialog was probably meant for the TV program the boyish girlfriend was watching

@NeoDark It is the TV program, that's why the text is put in narration boxes instead of speech bubbles. All three boxes are overlapping the TV too.

Simple things like this are panel layout 101- there is a method to where and why things are placed somewhere in a panel and in the case of dialogue, what they're encapsulated in. For example, in Sketchbook~ Full Colors, it is deliberately vague on whether or not Sora, the protagonist, is ever actually speaking aloud: she's introduced as being incredibly shy with difficulty speaking but she is depicted conversing in most strips featuring her- however, unique to her, nothing she ever 'says' is enclosed in a thought balloon, a speech bubble, or a narration box- her lines instead float in white space on the panel. So it's always ambiguous on whether or not people heard that or are just reading the atmosphere and guessing at what she's thinking- as the other characters' reactions vary from strip to strip.
