I read the mtl raws, and they change the pacing and events from the web novel. That oni guy actually died in the original; I guess they wanted to show some internal conflict for mc to overcome.

Yeah I agree the manga has really weird pacing and jumps from one "event" to another... It has potential but too bad the adaptation is just not that good. I wonder how the original novel is actually like?
